  A good looking and spacious building and polite staff. I was there on Sunday afternoon and there was plenty of space to work in the silent room on the 6th floor. However, I found it ridiculous that you have to pay for the toilets to use them. Also, there is no free wifi! The city buses have a free wifi on them, but not the central library.

  A great place to visit in the city even if you are not a bookworm! Go to the highest floor (6/F) and look out through glass building wall, especially during holiday season like X'mas, you can have the day and night view of Markthal and nearby church building for free! Their toilet fee rate is probably the lowest and cheaper than many other places nearby, even though it is not free! There is one "gated" sitting area on 2/F designated for families with young children visitors. Just check out that one side, you will find a wonderful collection of Dutch children books for all ages (some comes with CDs)! I also found a few book shelves holding children books printed in English closer to the lift side on 3/F for both pre-school kids and school aged children. Another surprising discovery on the floor, this library has children books in Chinese, Arabic, Spanish, Turkish and something I can't recall! I did explore other floors but I could only figure out a few categories in Dutch. If you want to use their wifi connection, you must be either a member, or simply buy an one day pass for that purpose. I have enjoyed very much the current Erasmus Experience exhibition too, which is free of charge to the public! As for my disappointment to this library, I found only a couple cookbooks written in the language that I could read. I know it is a local library, but there are so many English speaking residents in Rotterdam and I think a good amount of adult English books should also be available in non-fiction categories, like health, life science, home economy, hobbies etc. Too bad that I don't read fictions at all but there are plenty of fictions in English on one floor. The membership fees have gone up with less benefit for individuals and family in 2017, although it is still free for children under 18. It is interesting to know that you can buy a 12 month membership at the highest rate to benefit no late fees on the return of your late loaned items!
